Imagining an End to Domestic Violence
Unless we come to an accurate understanding of the root causes of violence against Native women, and reclaim our roots as Native people, the social transformation necessary to end violence will not occur.
Kimberly Dawn Roberts, Thesis, 2008
We believe everyone deserves compassionate care, and everyone deserves access to behavioral health services. TeeJuh is a program of the Native Village of Dot Lake, focused on ending domestic violence, substance misuse and suicide.
We established TeeJuh in response to a serious methamphetamine problem that erupted in the village. We listened, and responded to many complaints and calls for help from tribal members. Now we provide support and services tailored to the needs of the community.
Founded in 2021
TeeJuh was founded in 2021 with the assistance of two grants, awarded from the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women and Office of Victims of Crime. These funds were awarded in 2019.
These grants provide federal leadership to develop a capacity to:
- Reduce violence against women.
- Administer justice for and strengthen services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
- Assist with protection of families.
Our Domestic Violence Partnerships and Working Project
Dot Lake Village is proud to partner with these statewide projects, integrated health services and domestic violence response systems operating in the Upper Tanana Region and throughout Alaska.
