Imagining an End to Domestic Violence

Unless we come to an accurate understanding of the root causes of violence against Native women, and reclaim our roots as Native people, the social transformation necessary to end violence will not occur.

Kimberly Dawn Roberts, Thesis, 2008

We believe everyone deserves compassionate care, and everyone deserves access to behavioral health services. TeeJuh is a program of the Native Village of Dot Lake, focused on ending domestic violence, substance misuse and suicide.

We established TeeJuh in response to a serious methamphetamine problem that erupted in the village. We listened, and responded to many complaints and calls for help from tribal members. Now we provide support and services tailored to the needs of the community.

Vision

TeeJuh Behavioral Health & Counseling Services was founded on a belief that every person has the right to be safe, empowered, and free from violence.

Central to this belief, TeeJuh seeks to eliminate all domestic violence. Additionally, we aim to reduce related social problems, such as child abuse, sexual assault, substance abuse, sexism, racism, and other forms of oppression.

Mission

TeeJuh’s mission is to assist women and children who are victims of domestic violence, including emotional, economic, sexual and physical abuse. TeeJuh provides counseling, emotional support, and a diverse continuum of services focused on safety, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. Through our partnerships, TeeJuh helps raise awareness, provide services and offer resources to our Upper Tanana Region community.

Diversity Value

TeeJuh is committed to supporting the American Indian and Alaska Native communities affected by trauma. We carry out this commitment with ongoing openness and diligence, employing centered counseling to meet community needs. The work of TeeJuh and our associates includes an anti-oppression agenda, as we strive to end domestic violence.

Founded in 2021

TeeJuh was founded in 2021 with the assistance of two grants, awarded from the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women and Office of Victims of Crime. These funds were awarded in 2019.

These grants provide federal leadership to develop a capacity to:

  • Reduce violence against women.
  • Administer justice for and strengthen services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
  • Assist with protection of families.

Our Domestic Violence Partnerships and Working Project

Dot Lake Village is proud to partner with these statewide projects, integrated health services and domestic violence response systems operating in the Upper Tanana Region and throughout Alaska.
